About this plant

The pomegranate has graced Moroccan gardens since antiquity, and it is easy to see why: few trees offer such a succession of seasons. Brilliant red flowers in June, heavy glossy fruit in October, then foliage that turns golden yellow before falling.

Modest in size, it suits small gardens, patios and very large planters. It withstands heat, drought and chalky soils, and fruits all the better when the summer is hot.

A generous tree, ornamental and nourishing at once, and safe for pets.

Care

Caring for your plant

  • Watering

A generous weekly watering from May to September for plump fruit; almost nothing the rest of the year.

  • Light

Full sun, as hot as possible. That is the condition for good fruiting.

  • Feeding

Compost at the base in February and organic feed in May. Too much nitrogen drops the flowers.

  • Temperature

Hardy to −12 °C; it drops its leaves in winter and regrows in spring. No heat limit anywhere in Morocco.

  • Three seasons of show: flowers, fruit, golden leaves
  • Loves the dry heat of the interior
  • Pomegranates to pick from the second year
