The specimen
About this plant
Rosemary, azir in the Moroccan countryside, grows wild from the Oriental to the Middle Atlas. Its dark green needles, silvered underneath, release their scent at the slightest brush; its pale blue flowers appear from late winter and feed the bees.
As an edging, a ground cover trailing over a low wall or a clipped globe in a terracotta pot, it structures dry gardens and flavours the kitchen. It needs neither feed nor watering once established.
An essential of the Mediterranean garden, to plant beneath olive trees.

Care
Caring for your plant
Watering
Water only in pots, when the soil is dry: every ten days in summer. In the ground, rain is enough after the first year.
Light
Full sun, no exceptions. That is where it concentrates its essential oils.
Feeding
None. Poor, drained soil gives denser, more fragrant foliage.
Temperature
Hardy to −12 °C and perfectly comfortable at 45 °C. It fears only standing moisture in winter.
