About this plant

The dwarf fan palm grows wild on the hills of the Rif and the Atlas. That origin gives it rare resilience: drought, wind, salt, light frost, nothing stops it. It forms a dense clump of several short trunks topped by strongly graphic fan fronds.

In a planter on a terrace it brings a Mediterranean presence without ever becoming unwieldy. In a bed it structures low plantings and pairs beautifully with olive, lavender and agave.

A palm with character, at the scale of domestic spaces.

Care

Caring for your plant

  • Watering

Very frugal: a watering every fortnight in pots in summer, almost none in the ground once established.

  • Light

Full sun by preference; accepts the half-shade of a patio, where the foliage turns greener.

  • Feeding

One palm feed in spring is enough. It thrives in poor soils.

  • Temperature

The hardiest of our palms: −10 °C at the extreme and intense heat without damage.

  • Native: it knows the Moroccan climate better than we do
  • Stays compact, ideal for terraces and planters
  • Takes light frost, wind and sea spray
