The specimen

About this plant

Native to Lord Howe Island, the Kentia has been grown for drawing rooms and lobbies since the nineteenth century. Its deep green fronds fall in regular arcs on slender stems that let light through.

It is also one of the most tolerant indoor palms: it accepts medium light, dry air and spaced-out watering. Its slow growth makes it a lasting investment.

On the Moroccan coast it also lives outdoors in shade, in a patio or under a pergola.

Care

Caring for your plant

  • Watering

Water when the top few centimetres are dry, roughly every ten days in summer and every three weeks in winter.

  • Light

Medium to bright light, always indirect. It copes with dim rooms better than any other palm.

  • Feeding

One slow-release feed in spring is enough for the year.

  • Temperature

From 12 to 30 °C; tolerates the dry air of air-conditioned interiors.

  • The most tolerant of indoor palms
  • A classic elegance that outlasts trends
  • Safe for pets
