About this plant

Aloe vera forms a rosette of thick, grey-green, toothed leaves that store water and the gel that made its reputation. Grown since antiquity around the Mediterranean, it is at home in Morocco.

Potted on a sunny windowsill, on a balcony or planted in a dry garden, it asks only for sun and a very free-draining mix. Winter waterings can be counted on one hand.

A useful, graphic, trouble-free plant, best in a terracotta pot.

Care

Caring for your plant

  • Watering

Water only when the soil is dry deep down: every two to three weeks in summer, once a month or less in winter.

  • Light

Full sun or very bright light; in shade the leaves stretch and flop.

  • Feeding

One cactus feed in spring is enough.

  • Temperature

From 5 to 45 °C; fears only frost and standing moisture.

  • A few waterings a season are enough
  • Soothing gel within arm's reach
  • Withstands full sun and high heat
