The concept

The guiding idea

A contemporary oasis: existing date palms kept, low layers of agaves and cycads, light shade at the pool edge.

The original garden, a thirsty lawn, was replaced by a three-layer plan: Washingtonia and date palms for height, cycads and agaves for structure, creeping rosemary and lavender for scent. Light mineral mulch and buried drip irrigation cut estimated water use by two thirds.
