In the developments of Bouskoura, Souissi or the Palmeraie, overlooking neighbours are the first request we receive. A living screen takes two to three years to become opaque, but it brings what no wall does: coolness, movement and sometimes fragrance.
Evergreen hedges: the foundation
Italian cypress rises fast and straight, perfect for a narrow boundary; bay laurel forms a dense, fragrant hedge that can be clipped square; Pittosporum tobira tolerates salt spray and the wind of coastal cities. Plant 80 cm to 1 m apart for quick closure.

Climbers: a screen in one summer
On a trellis or tensioned cables, bougainvillea covers 3 m in a single season under the Marrakech sun; common jasmine, more restrained, scents the terrace in the evening. Both need a solid structure from planting day.
In planters, on a terrace
- Planters at least 50 cm deep, in a continuous line, with water reservoirs.
- Rhapis and areca palms for light shade and a tropical effect out of the wind.
- Oleander for the harshest exposures: heat, drought and salt don't stop it (toxic: avoid with young children and pets).
